NEUROSURGERY
Endoscopic Neurosurgery
Endoscopic neurosurgery is a minimally invasive procedure and does not involve large incisions or extensive dissection through brain tissue. Endoscopic brain surgery or intracranial surgery is performed for endoscopic tumor biopsy, colloid cyst resection, and endoscopic cyst fenestration and treatment hydrocephalus. Patients are typically discharged soon from the hospital.
Other than intracranial endoscopy, end nasal and spinal neurosurgery is frequently performed. Conditions treated include pituitary tumors, chordomas, lumbar and thoracic hernias, chronic back pain and compression fractures among others. Neuro-Vascular Surgery
Frequently treated conditions include cerebral aneurysms, carotid and intracranial atherosclerosis and stroke among others. Cerebral hemorrhage’s caused due to aneurysms and stroke require immediate neuro-vascular surgery. Treatment may include draining blood from brain, aneurysm repair, and endovascular embolization (inserting metal coils/meshes to block an aneurysm, open neurosurgery, or craniotomy. In many cases, patients may be able to have a minimally invasive endovascular treatment.
Trauma and Emergencies
Srikarta Hospitals boasts of a highly advanced 24 hour emergency treatment center. The ER at Srikarta Hospitals treats a wide range of emergency health conditions including road accidents. The ER treats number off cases of road accidents, head injuries and accidental falls successfully in coordination with multiple disciplines among which neurosurgery plays a central part.
Most often neurosurgeons at Srikarta Hospitals, deal with head injuries with raised intracranial pressure and restricted cerebral blood flow. Decompressive craniotomy, removing a part of the skull to relieve cranial pressure, is routinely performed.
To provide end to end care for patients undergoing neurosurgeries, Srikarta Hospitals has a dedicated intensive care unit equipped with an ICP monitoring system. Post-surgery patients are monitored closely by neurosurgeons and skilled multidisciplinary teams.
Pediatric Neurosurgery
Sometimes children may be born with anomalies of the brain, spinal cord, skull deformities and spinal deformities. In such cases pediatric neurosurgery becomes the followed line of treatment to alleviate painful conditions and/or improve quality of life. Some of the frequently performed pediatric neurosurgeries at Srikarta Hospitals include endoscopic third ventriculostomy to drain excess CSF and correction of cranio-synostosis (early, abnormal closure of skull bones) by minimally invasive surgery enabling the baby’s brain to grow normally
